New Horizon | Devotional

Do you ever lay in bed at night after a particularly difficult day and think, “Man. That was a rough one.”

Maybe you wonder, “What is going on? Why is this happening? How will I ever make it through?”

These questions tend to come quite often if you’re being honest. Sometimes things just don’t go your way. Maybe that situation you’ve been praying about doesn’t turn out the way you’d hoped, or the answer is still, “no,” or “not yet,” to a deep desire of your heart. Perhaps you’re experiencing a loss or struggling financially. Maybe you’ve been hurt by someone you trusted. We all experience hardship from time to time.

Take a moment to reflect – when have you felt this way in the past? Or perhaps, what battle are you currently facing?

So the question remains: What do we do when these moments come?

The answer may surprise you: Praise God.

In Psalm 113:3, the psalmist declares, “From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.”

But how can we adopt such a joyful, peaceful, positive attitude in a season when life deals in hardship? Well, this Psalm is a message of mercies to the lowly.

In verses 1-6, the psalmist sings of the Lord’s majesty; that He rules over the nations; that He sits enthroned on high. In case you needed this reminder today: Our God is SO glorious.

Then comes verse 7:

“He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap;” The Lord has the power to raise you up out of this hardship. Needing Him does not make you weak.

Verse 8:

“ He seats them with princes, with the princes of their people.” The Lord exalts the lowly. Our God doesn’t ally Himself with the high and mighty, but stands with the poor and needy.

Verse 9:

“He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the Lord.” The Lord loves to bless His people – even the most ashamed or disgraced – with the desires of their heart on this earth. Even so, our truest joy is found in Him! Praise the Lord!

You see, God’s lovingkindness and the Spirit living within us allow us to trust His promises, no matter our circumstances. So my friend, praise God before you have the answer you seek. Worship Him while you’re in the middle of the mess. Sing His praises from the moment you wake up until you go to sleep at night.

As you live this life of constant worship of the almighty King of Creation, just look around in faith to see what wondrous things He is already doing for you. Praise the Lord!

By writing these devotions, it is my hope that the Lord will use my words to stir your faith and inspire you to live it out wherever you may be. However, His Words are more powerful than mine ever could be.
